Friday 31st January
Peter was very kind to me this morning - I was asleep in my seat and he wanted to make sure that I would have enough toys to play with when I woke up. He piled up a few on my tummy - I had, 4 cars and the little men who sit in them, two rattles, an orange phone, the Spiral cot toy and a couple of bees (and beegirl of course). He's very kind.

I can wiggle my arms and legs around like anything - there's not much I can't wiggle them at. I wouldn't say that I can actually move them purposefully from A to B, but I can wiggle them aimlessly for ages.

Thursday 30th January
I've been very hungry today. Mum and Dad were very grumpy this morning because I slept for most of yesterday and stayed up for most of the night. I also did my only trick - Get Mum and Dad to change a nappy, wait for the last popper to be done up and then get them to change it again (for obvious reasons which I won't go into here).

Peter was very nice to me today, he gives me lots of toys and strokes my head when I'm crying. Sometimes if I'm shouting he says "milk" to Mum. I think he maybe able to understand what I'm shouting about. I'm going to try shouting louder at night so that he can hear me a bit more clearly in his room. Lovely.

I've noticed that I have quite a bit of spare skin on the top of my head. Dad teases me by pushing the wrinkles around the top of my head with his finger. I'm sure I'll grow into it - but it's good to have a little bit spare.

Wednesday 29th January
I have been mostly asleep today so there isn't really much to report. According to my stats, I have been asleep for a massive 68.16% of the day. So - taking into account eating, there hasn't been any time for anything else.

While I was asleep I had some admiring visitors, It was Liz and Ben and Pam. They had some lovely presents for me - some beautiful clothes and a whole box full of toys for me to chew. Lovely. As soon as I can make my arms and hands do what I want them too I'll give it a go. Meanwhile there is a lot of sleeping to do.

Tuesday 28th January
I had another bath today, except this time there was an audience. I showed my extreme displeasure with the whole affair by shouting very loudly. It's the only shouting I've done today, as I am generally a very quiet well behaved small boy.

I've decided that the only really comfortable place to sleep is either on Mum or on Dad. Cots are very nice in their place, but they don't add extra warmth to the sleeping experience. I had a lovely snooze this evening which was made more complete because I was doing some gentle hooting at the same time.

Monday 27th January
I got some lovely presents today - There was a beautiful soft sleeping suit with a bears face on it from Peter's friend Ryan and some other clothes with creepy crawlies on them - this brings my total of consecutive present days to 10. Which coincidentally is my exact age. I have reached double figures and it's been a long hard slog I can tell you.

I can now wiggle my arms and legs quite a bit and sometimes they even hit stuff. I can also move my head a bit, but only in the quest for food. Dad is a really bad bet for food. He's fairly good for a snooze - he is built for comfort I think.

(43.2% asleep today - I expect there will be some kind of babystat graph about this fairly soon.)

Sunday 26th January
It's been another day of snoozing and eating. A quick look at my wakeometer and a few sums tells me that I have been asleep for around 53.76% of the day. Obviously this only leaves 38.4% of the day in which to fit in all of my eating and various other activities - and I don't even know what these activities will be yet. There may be new ones to do at any moment. I should really be in a state of readiness in preparation for these times, but there's too much sleeping to be done.

Dad has bought me a little present for my car seat - it's a windy snake with hanging down brightly coloured blurs. Some of them make noises. I'm sure it's very nice and that the blurs will become clear in the near future.

Saturday 25th January
There are more hanging multicoloured blurs underneath my baby gym today. I was looking at some of them and trying to bat some around again. I think the ones that get batted were more accident than anything else.

Peter was very nice to me today (as usual) I was having a bit of a rest in my car seat and he was gently rocking it. Mum and Dad had fastened the belt incase of accidents, but he was very careful. He did such a good job that I fell asleep - one of the many times I've fallen asleep today.

Friday 24th January
I am officially a whole week old today. I've had more presents! I think so far I've had a present every single day that I've been around. I don't know how long I can expect this marvelous trend to continue, but I hope it's a long long time.

I can't honestly say that I have done too much today - I did go to a mother and baby group today, but I slept through most of it. I've done quite a lot of sleeping today as you will be able to tell from my recently new improved wakeometer. I've also been doing a fair bit of eating. The eating is going really well. My Mum is a genius with the food - it's always there when I need it. I did have a little bit too much at lunch time and I had to let the top bit out. On Mum's shirt. I don't think she minded too much though.

Thursday 23rd January
It's been another relaxing day (apart from one incident which I'll go into later). I have spent most of it either sleeping or eating. Just what I've come to expect.

I wasn't expecting the midwife to come and stick a needle in my foot. I always seem to be the last to know when something unpleasant is going to happen (see Jan 17th). I'll have to have a word with Mum about giving me some advance warning next time.

I had a little lie down under my baby gym today. It's got a slightly blurry blue object hanging from it. I may or may not have intentionally batted it around several times while I was lying next to it. Mum and Dad were impressed - I'm sure they already thing that I'm a genius.

Wednesday 22nd January
Ahhhh........ I'm any 5 days old. Everyone says the nicest things about me. My slightly tanned looking face is mostly due to my blushes and not the slight bit of jaundice that is remaining.

My main jobs at the moment seem to be sleeping and eating. I'm very good at both of them although I think Mum and Dad are especially proud of my abilities in the area of sleeping. I'm going for a record 4th night of sleeping for 6 hours. Keep your fingers crossed. Not for me obviously - If I don't sleep I'll be eating - something which I enjoy just as much as sleeping.

Dad has fitted a special new light in my bedroom which is remote controlled. It means that he can switch the light on for Mum without having to grumble around the room stubbing his toes every night. I'm looking forward to listening to him grumble about having to use his fingers to press buttons fairly soon.

Tuesday 21st January
It's been an interesting day - Dad went out in the afternoon and registered my birth. So I am now an official proper person. I don't think he made any spelling mistakes so my name is now offically Andrew Joseph.

As you can see from my wakeometer, I have been asleep for most of the day. I'm a very quiet person - quite different from my brother - or so I'm told. The only thing that woke me up was my bath. Mum and Dad seemed to feel that it was necessary to disturb my peaceful slumber by dunking me in lukewarm water. I didn't enjoy it too much. I let them know by shouting at them quite a bit. I did go right back to sleep again as soon as the bath was finished though.

I've been told that I have lovely blue eyes. Peter is very interested in them - sometimes I think he may be a little too interested. Still - he's been looking after me very nicely.

Monday 20th January
I've been experimenting a bit with some shouting today - not too much though - I've started quietly and maybe I'll build up to more of a yell a bit later on. I had a lovely sleep last night - Mum and Dad were very pleased with me this morning. Peter came to say hello to me in the morning and he offered me a drink of his milk. I didn't really want any so he offered me some of his water. He's a very generous boy.

Life seems to be either eating or sleeping mixed in with some very loud noises from somewhere behind me. I smile a lot when these noises happen.

I'm wearing dogs in hats in cars today, which Dad and Mum tell me used to be Peter's favourite babygro. Maybe I'll be able to show you a picture of it soon. It's very comfortable.

I'm always so hungry. Poor Mum has been feeding me for ages this afternoon - it's very relaxing.

Sunday 19th January
I've been enjoying some more milk today - lovely stuff. I'm quite good at managing to get it as well. I can lift my head up a tiny bit and I move my mouth around and then milk arrives.

My Dad has come to the hospital again this morning and it looks like we are going home. The doctor looked at Mum and said that we could all go home whenever we liked. I'm hoping that my big brother will be at home when I get there, he can move around quite a bit and I'm hoping to get a few pointers.

It's an exhausting business being me, I've spent a lot of time asleep and I've only really peered around a little bit at my new house. It looks nice and cosy - I think I'll be very comfortable here.

I've been put to bed in my new cot with my special sleeping bag. There's a baby alarm near me so I can talk to Mum and Dad downstairs if I want to. I'm hoping to enjoy some more milk a bit later on.

Saturday 18th January
I haven't really had a busy day. I've done a little bit of eating and quite a lot of sleeping. Mum has been looking after me very nicely, so I rewarded her with No crying and lots of sleep. I slept from 2.00am until 12.00pm this afternoon. I've enjoyed some more milk in the afternoon and then slept through Mum's bath. Dad gave me a few cuddles and mopped up a bit of my sick - which I was very grateful for - I'm still have a bit of mucus around inside me and I've been trying very hard to get rid of it. It should be gone tomorrow - I hope before we go home - I'd hate to make a mess of my new house.

Friday 17th January
There has been a terrible disturbance in my usual regime. Where to begin? I was rudely awaked this morning at 9.36am when I was plumped out into the cold air. I was shouting almost straight away, even before my chest was out. The midwife person scored me as all tens on her special scale. Apparently I'm a very healthy boy. My name is Andrew Joseph. at the moment.

I got weighed on some cold metal scales. I wasn't very keen on that - I was jumping around quite alot, but eventually everyone worked out that I weighed 9lbs 2.5ozs. and that is offically absolutely massive. I weigh 1lb more than my brother (who I'm going to meet tomorrow!). I am very nicely proportioned though.

I have also met my Mum and Dad, they are lovely. I've had a cuddle with both of then, but it was my Mum that I chose to dine with. Hmmmmm - drawing down colostrum. I've also had my first nappy change, an explosive experience let me tell you.

So far I have slept from 2 until 7 - fairly good going apparently. My Dad had to go home to put my brother to bed, I get to stay up late with Mum! Lovely. There will be more news tomorrow I'm sure. It's an exciting time!

Thursday 16th January
I was going to be born today, but apparently it was inconvenient to Grandma. I'm getting very squashed now and I think it's time for a change of scenery. Look out everyone!

Wednesday 15th January
Someone seems to be sitting in something nice and warm - i'll call it a "bath" until I know better. I've been jumping around a lot today.

Tuesday 14th January
I was going to be born today, but apparently it was inconvenient to the doctors. At least I'll be a bit more cooked by friday.

Thursday 9th January
I've been adjusting my position a lot today - I can't really get comfortable. I'm thinking of moving to new premises.

Tuesday 7th January
I've been having some Musical entertainment this evening. A lovely bit of Nick Drake to sooth me to sleep.

Friday 3rd January
I'd like to announce that my immenent arrival has been rescheduled until the 17th of January. The slight delay is due to many inconveniences at the parent end of the bargain.

I'll look forward to seeing you all then.

Friday 27th December
Ahem - this is my first diary entry. I'd like to introduce myself but I don't really have a name yet. A few suggestions have been made but there's nothing definite yet.

The latest news is that my actual birth has been put backwards by two days until the 16th of January. Apparently the hospital was too busy to see me on the 14th.

I'm going to go back to swimming around for a bit now. The quarters are a little cramped but it's really rather comfortable and warm.
